I needed to choose a name. Never thinking it would matter, I chose kittycity. Mark called me kitty, I grew up in the city and it rhymed, done! I started posting things I had previously written and got attention fairly quickly. I was on the app for two weeks before I even realized the community was mostly teens and young adults posting their rap lyrics. Here I am, the oldest writer on the app, a forty year old white woman with three kids and I am getting respected. On the block a respect is equivalent to a like on Facebook.
I was hooked. I posted frequently. Day, night, dusk til dawn you could find my work in the feed. It became like a full time job for me. I was determined to stay noticed, to stay relevant and grow as a writer. Never would I have predicted the unbelievable success I had on the app. I am very proud of what I was able to accomplish. It was the first time in my life I stuck with anything long enough to be successful. Much time and effort went into building up the kittycity account.
The block will forever be kittycity's home; the community will always be my family. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the many talented people who have come and gone. There is nothing more exciting to me as a writer than being surrounded by other creative minds. The gifts some of these individuals possess are truly inspiring. It's what drove me to keep going, to keep striving to be better. I have nothing but gratitude for their support over the past few years. It was a difficult and scary decision to put this account to the side. I had been struggling with it for quite some time. I knew if I was going to continue to grow, I needed to leave my home to become Tara Nicole.
